RESTRICTED: Running on the Runway
I should not be blogging about this. But I just can’t hide the excitement and rave I had after last night’s 12K run. I also remembered my runs on a virgin beach at Siargao Island and my Baguio City speed training, but this one is different. Something you can’t do again because its prohibited.
It should be an early morning run on Sto.Tomas-Lipa Road (towards Mt.Manabu) but because I slept late I woke up pass 8:00am. So I decided to do my run in the afternoon this time with a different route- inside the Air Base. I really don’t know where exactly, my purpose was very simple: Run 1:15-1:30 hours in preparation for next week’s 21K.
The road was long, straight and flat but because I’m tired I was having hard time at the first mile, I need to continue and I found myself enjoying the serenity of the road I’m pounding. I stopped looking at my watch and just continued running until I found myself running on the runway. Yes, on the plane’s runway. I actually do not know that is is a RESTRICTED place. It was already dark when I entered and I wasn’t able to see the signage.
I cannot explain the feeling- Frightened? Excited? I was just telling myself that I need to do 12K or more tonight. I just ran inside the airbase mostly around the quadrangle. It was a great run, I forgot about the route and focused on my breathing, running faster if I can and slowing down when drinking from my hydration belt.
Since I wasn’t able to bring a camera last night, I returned this afternoon to take some photos of the places I’ve ran to. guess what? I saw the RESTRICTED sign already:
More pictures inside the airbase:
- FAB Quadrangle, a lot of soldiers run here too
- Major Fernando
- Mt. Maculot on the horizon
- Big Bird Display
- Serene Roads, no vehicles, no people, just you and the road
- Inside you will see the planes
- towards the runway, flat sweet baby!
- One of the airplane displays inside the airbase
- The Watch Tower, near entrance to Runway
- It says: Vehicle without clearance are not allowed to cross the RUNWAY.
