JourneyingJames on Wikipedia: Team Diadora!

July 14th, 2012 2 comments

I don’t know what to say when I saw this one:

that is what you call ‘branding”

From: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diadora

But I was happy. I was trying to ask myself what this means. I don’t know who wrote this but I’m thankful that I can see my name on Wikipedia already.

To be part of Team Diadora is an achievement and I am most happy to be part of this start-up running team. And to see the names and teams that Diadora is sponsoring above, I am thrilled! Really, I’m glad to be part of the roster.

Thanks to my Diadora family for believing in me. I’m back into running and is preparing for another half-marathon and hopefully my 3rd marathon and who knows an ultramarathon?

Diadora has been making running shoes since the 1970′s. They are more into the football scene but is now picking up on the running market. Anyway, I don’t know if you remember it but Piolo Pascual sports Diadora before and that is the reason why I know this brand. Here’s some of the photos I saw from PinoyExchange.com:

Meanwhile, if you haven’t seen it yet, here are some of my photos wearing Diadora:

I know, my pose on the second photo is not as hot as Piolo, but hey, I’m more manly than him. Ooooopssss.. Did I just say that? Sorry!

10 Things To Do While Injured and Cannot Run

July 3rd, 2012 No comments

So you are injured? Now, what to do to keep yourself motivated or still be active in the running scene. Here are some suggestions that can be of help if you are nursing an injury right now.

I’m speaking from experience, I’ve been injured twice- the first was when I forced myself to race 10k just a week after finishing my first marathon. The second one was just 3 weeks ago when I forced myself to run with like hell, trying to beat my fastest time after a 4-month running hiatus. Crazy, I know.

So here ae some of the things you can do:

1. Eat healthy. I don’t want to talk about having a good and right pair of running shoes. You know that already. Maybe just a reminder to eat healthy because runners have this tendency to eat whatever they like and tell themselves, “it’s okay I will burn this on my next LSD.” Watch your diet dude.

You will never go wrong with salad

2. Build your core muscles. This is the perfect time to build you core. Do some sit-ups, pilates, plank exercise, push-ups, squats, stability balls or yoga. Just be easy with yourself, you don’t want to injure yourself again while doing some work outs. And while you are at it, don’t forget to get your personal injury claims. I’m sure you are covered by your company.

Yoga at the beach.

3. Start blogging. Yep! Why don’t you start a blog? Start a running blog, a ports blog, a food blog, a blog that showcases your passion. Use that extra time to write, to some its therapeutical, to some its a nice way to let time pass by, or you can write about your injury so others won’t experience the same.

4. Read a good marathon/running book. It’s also the time to read your dusty running books. Born to Run, Terry Fox and His Marathon of Hope, Duel in the Sun, Run Less, Run Faster, Marathoning for Mortals, The World’s Greatest: The Haile Gebrselassie Story, Chi Running and Ultra Marathon Man are good books. If you don’t have a running book yet, use the money to buy one, you are not paying for an expensive race anyway.

5. Volunteer on races. Help others by volunteering on races. Helping beginners in their first marathon, cheer you friends or give some sports gel, water or maybe massage the stiffened muscles of your ultrarunner friend.

Filipino Runners Tabal and Duenas won 21K of Singapore Sundown Marathon 2012

June 3rd, 2012 1 comment

Seems everyone is busy on what happened on the impeachment and so somehow these two Filipino runners’ feat in Singapore where not even in the news. Or did I miss it? I guess not as I’m all eyes on TV, Twitter and newspaper.

So, here’s my simple congratulatory note to Mary Joy Tabal and Coach Philip Duenas who both emerged champions on the 21K category in the recent Sundown Marathon held in Singapore.

I’m proud of you guys! I hope you guys make it on TV, maybe on GMA’s Good News with Ms. Vicky Morales. Our country needs good news, inspirations like you two!

Here’s what John Philip Duenas has to say, “Lipay kaayo ko sa ako daog kay didto nako nakita nga nalipay sad ang ubang mga Pilipino nga nakadaog ko. The Filipinos were very supportive. Halos mag lukso-lukso na sila sa kalipay labi na pag awarding.” (I’m very happy  because I see that fellow Filipinos were very happy  with my victory. The Filipinos were very supportive, they like to jump to rejoice with me during the awarding ceremony.)

Mary Joy Tabal on the other hand said, “I was very intimidated before running this race. There were international runners there. But after that race, I realized, maka-compete man sad diay ta ug mga lig-on nga runners.” (But after the race, I realized that I can now compete with elite runners.)

Thanks to runner friend, Sir Leo “Toel Toel” for giving me a heads up!

Runner’s World Philippines April-June 2012

Q: What can I say about the RW Philippines April-June 2012 issue?

A: Best ever issue yet!

Why?

Here’s some of my thoughts and observations on the latest issue of Runner’s World Philippines:

LIKES:

1. The Best of Running. Javy Olives does a great job of compiling these little known facts and trivia about the sports we all love! Nice to read some of my running inspirations like Pre, Geb and Terry Fox.

2. 10 Runner’s, 10 Cities. Although not all destinations are cities (Lucban, Boracay and Nasugbu), I like the idea that RW poses each Manila-based runner that there are places in the country where Read more…
