Seatizen’s Festival, Green Race on May 26

March 24th, 2013 No comments

I hardly promote FUN RUNS AND RACES nowadays but this I can’t miss to share (and YES, I’m planning to support this fun run by joining the 10K race):

Save Philippine Seas (SPS) is set to celebrate its second year with up to 2,000 attendees at the Seatizen’s Festival, a birthday party-slash-fundraiser with a fun run, Sunday market, and concert at the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center (NAPWC) on Sunday, May 26.

Seatizen's Festival

Green race

SPS and Run for Change (Run4change, Inc.) will be putting a new kind of fun into a fun run! The race on May 26 will be a “green race” and will strictly implement various green practices for minimal waste. Several aspects of the event will be done digitally or using recyclable materials.

Participants will be encouraged to come in costume made from recyclable or reusable materials. These could be full costumes, shirts they made themselves, or hats with coastal and marine life designs. Photos of costumed runners will be uploaded immediately to the Seatizen’s Festival Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SeatizensFestival) for the public to vote on their favorites. Winners with the most “Likes” will be announced on May 31 and will receive special prizes.

Fun run distances are 1k for kids, and 3k, 5k, 10k for teens and adults, with a route that will take runners from North Avenue to Agham Road to Quezon Avenue and back into NAPWC. Registration fee is P350.

Runners will also be reminded to bring their own water bottles and bring snacks in biodegradable or reusable packaging. All race and publicity materials printed on tarps will be donated to the Children’s Environmental Education Awareness Foundation, a non-profit organization that upcycles tarps into schoolbags for public school students in poor communities.

OTHER EVENTS:

Sunday market

The Sunday market will showcase up to forty exhibitors and feature creative activities, artwork by local artists, eco-friendly products, retailers, food establishments, exhibits by NGOs and school organizations. The “green” practice extends here as well; all exhibitors will be encouraged to use recyclable or reusable materials for booth décor, product packaging, and other purposes.

Rock the Boat concert

Exciting rock bands and performers, including the Itchyworms, Flying Ipis, and Indio-I, will be keeping seatizens entertained all throughout the festival.

To participate in the Seatizen’s Festival and support SPS’ projects, please contact Nix Nicolas at savephseas@gmail.com or 0917-9015216.

Adidas Finds Fast with the Adizero F50 Runner 3

January 27th, 2013 1 comment

Running shoes are runners’ most important gear, unless of course you belong to the barefoot running
community. Anyway, adidas creates one of their fastest shoes to date called the adizero F50 Runner 3. As
a lightweight runner, I tried using the adizero Ace before and it was one of my fave running shoes.

This new adizero F50 Runner 3 is another creation under the brand’s lightweight range, a result of precise
engineering and thorough research to help athletes find new levels of fast.

Find fast

The adizero F50 Runner 3 features the lightest advanced technologies such as the SPRINTFRAME
platform. It replaces the conventional (more heavyweight) shoe construction while maintaining important
performance characteristics, such as comfort and stability, and allowing for optimum forefoot propulsion.
Fully integrated in the SPRINTFRAME platform is the TORSION® SYSTEM which allows independent
movement of the fore- and rearfoot.

Adidas F50

Inspired by the dynamic 3-Stripes execution and seamless upper design of the F50 football boot, which
is worn on the field of play by adidas football ambassadors such as Lionel Messi, the F50 Runner 3 also
features FORMOTION™ technology which adjusts to every runner’s individual style and assists the
runner’s take-off with every stride. The shoe also offers full forefoot adiPRENE®+ which propels the
forefoot for an improved toe-off.

Some of the fastest athletes in the world, such as Yohan Blake (100m World Champion), David Rudisha
(Olympic 800m gold medalist and world record holder) and Patrick Makau (marathon world record
holder) trust the adizero range in their competitions.

JourneyingJames on Runner’s World Philippines

January 20th, 2013 1 comment

Yep, one of my dreams in my running career is now a reality!

I’m on Runner’s World Philippines Rave Run section- January-March issue with Kuya Kim Atienza on the cover.

I submitted a photo of my rave run last year and they thought it deserves a feature on the Rave Run section of the famed running magazine.

Short story: When I started running last 2009, I bought old issues of Runner’s World magazines and amazed myself of the rave run photos. I always check their website to see the beautiful places to run and dreamed of running those beautiful spots myself. Yep, I even dreamed of seeing myself on the magazine itself. Now, that dream is a reality for me. Thanks Runner’s World!

I haven’t got hold of the magazine yet but my friend Allan sent me a twitpic:

“It was bliss, nirvanic at every stride and all endorphins in my body were flowing like crazy. It was like I was transported in another dimension- to paradise.”

I checked Runner’s World Philippines Facebook page and found out that they also used another photo of mine (this time front view) as their cover photo. What an honor! Salamat!

Ang buhay ay weather weather lang, the start of this year a good weather for me. And I predict that the rest of the year would be sunny for me!

More info about this photo:

Name of Photographer:  James Betia, I set my 10-second timer after running 5kilometers to remind me of the nirvana I experienced during this run.

Name of Runner: James Betia (yes, that’s me! Look at my sexy back)

Why is it a rave run?

“The morning run was one of a kind. The beach was unspoiled, the sea breeze uplifting and the sun invigorating. It was bliss, nirvanic at every stride and all endorphins in my body were flowing like crazy. It was like I was transported in another dimension- to paradise. How I miss that feeling- my mind was peaceful. My feet were just smiling as they were connected to the ground I’m running.”

Thanks for the feature Runner’s World Philippines. Next on my list, on international Runner’s World magazine! Wooohooo!
