CAMP RUN- Train/Race/Serve at Camp Aguinaldo

July 26th, 2011 No comments

Looking for a different race venue within the Metro? How about an afternoon run? Them this is for you! Introducing CAMP RUN- Train/Race/Serve.

What is CAMP RUN?

The Camp Run Series is composed of several running events happening throughout the year at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. The series will feature a military or boot camp theme, a unique race format, and a novel route for the runners. It will also be tailored to encourage continuous participation rather than competitiveness, and will ultimately be developed to become a nationwide program or template.

The races will have 5 kilometers and 10 kilometers distances. Participants can expect race grounds that are not only secure, but smog and smoke-free as the events will be held inside Camp Aguinaldo which has less traffic movement than the regular thoroughfares and roads of usual running routes. Aside from needed facilities such as ample water stations and accurate kilometer and directional markings, the Camp Run events will also provide free training clinics and a designated family and finishers’ activity area.

In order to encourage participants to attend all events of the Camp Run Series, eXtribe also created the “VeteRan” system. This system will recognize runners who went to all of the races under the Camp Run series, and they will receive a special race bib, event shirt, and a commemorative dog tag and medal. Runners can also use the series as preparatory training for the Subic International Marathon, which will be held early 2012.

CAMP RUN’s Beneficiaries

The various partner foundations that will benefit from the Camp Run Series are the following: Adopt-A-School Program of DepEd, E-media Project of ABS-CBN Foundation, HERO Foundation Inc., and 57-75 Movement: Reverse the Education Crisis (a beneficiary of the iamninoy-iamcory runners). In partnership with Discovery Suites, Businessworld, Total Fitness Magazine, Pinoy Fitness, OneSport, DOLE, Nova Multigrain Cookies, Aero Med, Nathan, ROX and Chris Sports. eXtribe’s campaign will not just be anchored on a single event, but will be sustained throughout the year with the lined up series of races. To know more about the event visit www.extribe.com.ph or call eXtribe office at (02) 438-9021 / (02) 439-3007.

End Hunger: Walk the World with KC Conception

May 18th, 2011 No comments

So you have ran with Piolo at the Timex Run, Derek during the Century Tuna Run and Sam during the Blue Water Day Spa. Now its KC Concepcion’s time! And what better way to spend your Sunday morning by supporting the UN World Food Program‘s (UN-WPF) END THE HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD Run/Walk event this May 29.

WHAT: END HUNGER-WALK THE WORLD (Take a step towards ending hunger with WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion)

WHERE: SM Mall of Asia, IMAX Parking lot

WHEN: May 29, 2011, Sunday, 5:00-10:00AM

Do You Know?

Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children under the age of five in the developing world.

This year, thousands of people around the globe are preparing to join WFP and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29, Sunday.

WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

This will help 80,000 children in Mindanao

This year’s Walk the World, which is set to be bigger than the previous years, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger.  In addition to the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run. Proceeds from the event will support approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

Join Walk the World Pilipinas today (www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org) – together we can end hunger.

It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school.  School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

What If I Can’t Come on May 29?

If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld  with photos, videos and donations.

Atlast! A FREE Race- Hyundai Fun Run

March 13th, 2011 2 comments

When most runners are focused on registering online for the Hyundai Fun Run because its for FREE (yes, FREE as in Libre parang Inquirer libre lang sa MRT), I was busy writing a blog posts. After some hours, registrations were closed because of the overwhelming response from the running community. Bad news! Immediately, I ask my registered friends, 40 of them, "Pwede mag-bandit?"

Luckily, I was invited at the Hyundai Fun Run Bloggers Launch and we were accommodated by Hyundai staff. Thanks Hyundai!

RUNNING FOR A GREEN TOMORROW

Hyundai to launch first-ever automotive-sponsored eco-fun run to create a new generation of eco-conscious and responsible motorists

Please NOTE that venue is changed from Bonifacio Hogh Street to Quirino Grandstand, Manila (near Luneta)

The Hyundai Accent Run : An All-new Way to Play
April 2, 2011, Quirino Grand Stand.

5K / 10K
Official Assembly Time: 4:30am for 10k, 5:30am for 5K

Official website is www.hyundaifunrun.com. You can also add them as friend on Facebook: Hyundai Fun-Run.

A confirmation via email will be sent to you once registration form has been fully accomplished. There s NO registration fee!

Singlet Design:

Some notes I got during the Press Launch:

  • There will be different waves of runners at the starting line. This is safety reasons and because there are so many runners who registered.
  • Race Results will not be posted online, this meas that you have to get your own finish time as you cross the finish line.
  • This run is more geared more that runners would have fun, less of the competetive spirit. So let’s have fun during this day.
  • This is just the first among many runs that Hyundai will organize for runners. So, be ready for the next Hyundai Race.
  • There will be a Hyundai Village near the Finish Line, where Hyundai cars are displayed and are available for test drive. Maybe this is a perfect time to buy a new car.

This run is in partnership with HARIBON Foundation. Each participant will allow HARI to donate one native tree seedling to HARIBON as part of Hyundai’s socio-civic “Together We Can for a Green Tomorrow” pro-environment advocacy.

Winners for each category will be given trophies and Hyundai items.

So for those who are fast enough to register here, see you at the 10K starting line and lets have some fun!

Again, thank you very much Hyundai for organizing such event, this is a very timely response to the rising registration fees in races. Hats-off to the staff too! Indeed, Hyundai is all about "New Thinking, New Possibilities."

____ ____ ____

Hyundai’s lineup of best-of-breed automobiles will also serve as main attractions during the fun run, reinforcing Hyundai’s green stance with eco-friendly attributes and performances installed in all its technologies. Available for test drives are: the nifty and utilitarian i10 compact car, the powerful yet fuel-flexible Tucson SUV, the fluidic Sonata luxury sedan, the CRDi-powered Grand Starex Limousine, the nimble Genesis Coupe sports car, and the durable Santa Fe Crossover Utility Vehicle.

RunRio Trilogy Awards Night: The “Oscars” of Philippine Running

March 3rd, 2011 No comments

Just a week ago we watched the best of the best of Hollywood awarded thru the Oscars. Now, guess what? RunRio does this too, yes, it feels like Oscars Awards night, to the 21K-21K-32K finishers of the RunRio Trilogy 2010. What a nice way to thank the runners. Galing, congrats and cheers Coach Rio!

Let me just say a note of the buffet and drinks. Because its the "Oscars," it is the best! Love everything especially the salad and the mojo. The drinks, what more can I say, whacked! No, I’m not whacked, but it was cool to just chill with fellow runners and bloggers in a setting other than the road or BGC. Hats off to the RunRio Team!

During the event, Coach Rio also unveiled the upcoming races under RunRio and I’m glad its includes Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Baguio, but I’m excited for the Camsur International Marathon come September.
