Subic International Marathon 2012
SUBIC INTERNATIONAL MARATHON 2012 could be my next hal-marathon if my schedule permits. I was invited to the media launch of SIM 2012 and I want to have that 21K finisher’s dog tag. The organizers of this race also organized the successful CAMSUR Ironman 70.3 so makes me think that this would be a very good event.
Of all the things that they said, one thing captured my mind, “THIS IS THE MOST GORGEOUS 42K ROUTE” in the Philippines. We will see…
Here’s the complete details of the Subic International Marathon 2012:
The Subic International Marathon (SIM) is all geared-up in creating a different and more satisfying race event on January 21-22, 2012. Running on its 6th year, SIM forged new partnerships with CORPS Movement Foundation and Dilaab Movement as the beneficiaries of the 2012 SIM and eXtribe, Inc. as the running event’s co-producer and race organizer.
With Running becoming one of the most popular fitness and recreation activities today and a means to support and raise funds for advocacies and special causes, the 2012 SIM will support development programs of CORPS Movement Foundation and Dilaab Foundation.
“Running has easily become a favored activity because it’s easy and accessible to anyone. But we would like to make a difference by making running a direct approach to push transformation of individuals and the community. With the discipline attached to running, members of the community tend to live healthy and clean to meet the demands of their running game,” said retired General Sammy Tucay. “The discipline and clean living fostered by running trickles down to how these individuals act in their community,” added Ret. Gen. Sammy Tucay, Founder and Chairman Subic International Marathon.
To further foster the Filipino community’s love for running, premier multi-sports event company eXtribe, Inc. is putting out all efforts to deliver a well-organized 2012 Subic International Marathon. SIM race course is a break from the usual city runs, with its internationally endorsed race course in the sprawling, lush green Remy Field in SBMA,SubicOlongapoCity.
Runners can expect a safe, clean, and cool run with rest facilities in the race course in every turn-around point for the 5,10, 21 and 42k race; committed hydrating station within every 1.5km; full medical support in case of emergency; RFID Accurate Timing System, and; an uncrowded run with the split-schedule of the races. Three-kilometer and 5-kilometer races are set on January 21, Saturday afternoon, while the 10-, 21- and 42-kilometer races are set on January 22, Sunday morning.
“The way we are organizing the Subic International Marathon is focused on making sure that our runners will have a satisfying and memorable experience. Eventually, we hope that our efforts will make SIM one of the premier running events in thePhilippinesthat will attract international marathoners. And, that will set the stage in making thePhilippinesa recognized member of the global running community,” said Eric Imperio, President of eXtribe, Inc.

Within the next few years, SIM aims to be a distinguished running event that advocates the transformation of local communities through the discipline instilled by one’s love for running. About CORPS Movement Foundation:
SIM and CORPS Movement Foundation have been providing community development programs in various places in Metro Manila and in different regions in the Philippines since 1992.
Transforming communities and societies require social contexts. Hundreds of volunteers from the faith-based group of the CORPS Movement Foundation are deeply involved in creating God-centered, service-oriented, and family-based communities. The CORPS Movement Foundation offers different programs such as: Anti-Drug Campaigns, Values Enhancement Program, Health and Wellness Advocacies, Workshops on Strengthening Family Relationships, among others. These programs have dramatically impacted and significantly contributed to the inculcation of values and virtues amongst children and youth, and to building safer schools, barangays, and communities.
About DILAAB Movement:
Dilaab (Cebuano for “fire, fervor, or conflagration”) is a volunteer-driven, faith-impelled, Church-based movement for a transformed Filipino nation through heroic Christian citizenship and leadership.
Dilaab began with three advocacy groups, one reaching out to OFWs and families (Friends of Pedro); another seeking a narcopolitics-free Philippines (Kamatuoran –
“Truth”); and a third promoting corruption-intolerance (Barug – “Make a stand” – Pilipino!). In 2007, all three groups were consolidated into Dilaab Foundation Inc.
Takbo Maharlika is one Dilaab Movement’s projects that tasks Fr. Carmelo Diola and Ret. Gen. Sammy Tucay to run the 2888 kilometer stretch of Maharlika Highway in eight months, starting August 8, 2011, starting in Laoag City, traversing through Eastern Visayas, and ending in Zamboanga City.
The event hopes to unite people with the symbolism of connecting the whole nation with treads (i.e. running steps) across the breadth and scope of the Philippine archipelago.
