Do you still remember last year’s Greenfied City Sunset Run? Here’s my account of last year’s Sunset Run.

 

This year’s run is quite different as this is the first advocacy run for Greenfield City- its for Cleaner Air.

This is what I got from the Bloggers’ Launch–

 

“Greenfield Clean Air Run” will be held on May 29, 2011 at Greenfield City, Paseo de Sta. Rosa. This event features 4 race categories: 500m dash (for children 5 to 12 years old), 5km,10km and 21km.

 

ONLINE REGISTRATION OPENS ON APRIL 29runrio

Online registration period is from April 29 to May 15, 2011 only. Delivery of race kits will start on May 6, 2011.

FREE BUS RIDE TO GREENFIELD

For those coming from Manila, Greenfield offers bus rides on a “first come, first serve basis” only. You have to tell the staff that you need a bus stub (one per registered runner) when you register (one stub per registered runner) at the stores mentioned above. They will give you a stub like the one below which you will be required to show when you board the bus come May 29 at 3:00am.

Security and safety concerns remain a top priority in all Runrio races, therefore to manage the crowded lanes we will implement starting time in waves.

• Registration may end earlier than announced deadline therefore, race kits may run out before May 22, 2011.
• A valid ID must be presented upon registration. For group registration, a photocopy of any valid ID must be presented by the representative.
• Singlet size availability will be on a first come first served basis.
• A disposable timing device will be used by all participants during the race.
• Finisher’s kits will be given upon finishing the race.

We are all runners. We don’t care how fast or how far you can go. We don’t care if today is your first day or you’ve been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. We just run. We are not just a group but a RUNNING FAMILY.

The long wait is over as Merrell takes off the curtain and launches its Vibram-soled Barefoot trail shoes. I was invited on the event that happened last April 8 at Merrell Concept Boutique, Market Market.

I tried the Trail Glove and its like wearing a VFF Sprint with added cushioning. It felt great on my feet and I will definitely buy this one.

Thumbie Remigio, a trail runner and trail run organizer said that “this is the best shoe he ever worn.” He wore the new Merrell Trail Gloves during the race where he finished strong at 3 hours 28 minutes and 38 seconds and placed 2^nd in his age group and 8^th overall. The Pilipinas Akyathlon required athletes to cover 21 kilometers of mountain trails 3,000 miles above sea level. He also plans to use the shoes on the his next international race event in Sabah.

Other than running and traveling, surfing has been close to my heart as it gives me high (even if I’m just a spectator). Oh yes, I’m a hopeless frustrated surfer wannabe. I have lotsa stories of not being able to surf the waves but that’s a different story. Let me tell you something that is more exciting…

Get stoked even while in Manila

I was surprised when I first heard about surfing in Manila. But then I found myself green-eyed when I was invited at Club Manila east to cover the 2^nd CME Surfing Competition. Philippine Surfing Academy (PSA) organized this event for beginners- categories include kids (under 13), open women’s and open men’s.

Watching the heats breaks my heart, should I learned about this weeks before, I could have joined too as this is in my bucket list. Maybe next year? Kassy & Joko I’ll join you na on your next surfing trip me!

KID’S DIVISION

I was impressed on how the kids were able to ride the waves even if unassisted by EJ, the head coach of PSA. They were really pumping the boards and having the time of their life. I bet their parents are more stoked seeing them ride the waves like pros.

OPEN MEN’S & WOMEN’S

Clad with their board shorts and rash guard, everyone is competitive in both the men’s and women’s divisions. Jealousy was all over my limbs as I watch them paddle out, wishing I was in my board shorts and rash guard too. I can’t take it anymore so I went into our cabana and pretend not to care and just “surf” the internet. I should come again here.

The night is overcoming the sunlight and tiredness was already creeping in, I wasn’t able to finish the competition but I want to say “KUDOS” to Paolo Soler (PSA President) and PSA for promoting surfing in our country. Good job too to Manila Surfers Club and Club Manila East!

For runners, surfing is a good cross-training as you will be strengthening your core and shoulders while paddling and balancing on a surf board.
