Three things we need for this trail run well not only for trail runs but also in road runs: Confidence in your training and preparation, Will to finish and Sex appeal.
Confidence. Whenever a runner goes on the starting line he/she is very much aware that he/she can finish and will finish the race. I don’t know any serious runner who starts the race with the thought of not finishing the race (DNF). It is actually the confidence each runner has in his/her preparation, speed trainings, solo morning/evening runs, weekend long runs, core training, etc that makes him/her cross the finish line. So I think if you lose confidence in yourself its the end of the race- to run in unbelief is unthinkable for a runner. At least for a “real” runner.
I believe I am confident that I will finish this adventure race. This will be my first trail run. I am confident because I have trained twice on the mountains of Makiling. I did some river/creek crossing, jumping over huge rocks, running on roots, dirts and (poops?).
The Mt. Makiling Trail- my playground during my runs:
I’m am confident that this sandals/shoes can stand the test of rocks, rivers, dirts etc for 15k.
Will. Every runner wants to finish and to finish strong. Runners even go the second mile- to have a personal record (PR) or for the elites bring home the cash prize and other rewards. As we all know the battle starts in the mind. If you think you can’t then you actually can’t. But if think YOU CAN then sure enough YOU CAN. I remember my 2nd Half Marathon where I experienced almost quitting at the 18th kilometer because of cramps, heat and pain on my feet. But the “will” that prevailed is the thought of wearing that finisher’s shirt and medal at the finish line. So after a quick prayer of “Lord, strengthen me until the 21st kilometer” I got my second wind and even saw myself sprinting the last 100 meters. That I think is the loooooooongest 3k of my life (Km18-Km21). The pain is excruciating, I was crying at the finish line- the will to finish prevailed.
Here’s one of my motivations before I run (Thanks to d-loner-runner for sharing the vid): “The Runner’s Creed- Road to Peace”
Sex Appeal. Now forget about sex appeal. It doesn’t help in the run. Hahaha! I put that kasi katunog n’ya young “will.” Naisip ko lang kanina on my way down Mt. Makiling. Anyway, I’ll be back after the race for the recap and some learnings.
The learnings of Pinoy Weekend Warrior during his All Terra trail run also helped me in my preparation.
The Race Kits be claimed on-site on the day of the race, especially for those who registered online
